Ranbir Kapoor’s singing is very bad, but he’s a good actor: Vedang Raina

Actor Ranbir Kapoor has many fans, one of whom is Vedang Raina, who recently shared the screen with Alia Bhatt in Jigra. However, Vedang is only a fan of Ranbir’s acting, not his singing. In a recent interview, while discussing the Imtiaz Ali film Rockstar, where Ranbir plays a singer, Vedang stated, “His singing skills were really bad.”
During an interview with The Lallantop, India Today’s sister channel, Vedang showcased his singing talent, prompting the host to suggest that Imtiaz could make a Rockstar sequel with him. The young actor, pleased with the compliment, mentioned that Rockstar is his favourite film.
Vedang said, “I have been the biggest fan of Ranbir’s lip-syncing in Rockstar. I was very curious to always see the film’s BTS. I was curious to know if Ranbir could sing or not. I had it in my mind that he must be a singer. His singing skills were negative; they were really bad. But that also goes to show how good an actor he is.”
The Archies actor continued, “Being a singer, I also tried to recreate the lip-syncs. Obviously, in the film (Jigra), it was an exaggerated version, but I wanted to try matching his pitch.” He added that lip-syncing is not an easy job.
Actor Alia Bhatt, who was also part of the interview, mentioned that her late father-in-law, actor Rishi Kapoor, always told his son Ranbir to sing loudly to get his expressions right. “One thing Ranbir would always share was that his father would ask him to sing loudly. If there is anybody who truly sang songs, it was Rishi Kapoor,” said Alia.
A behind-the-scenes video from the set of Imtiaz Ali’s 2011 film Rockstar circulated on the internet in September. The video featured Ranbir as he shot for the song ‘Jo Bhi Main’. Since the video was shared with its original audio, people on the internet were amused with Ranbir’s singing skills.
Not just Ranbir, Vedang also mentioned being inspired by another member of the Kapoor clan. “Before The Archies, I had seen a lot of Shammi Kapoor videos. My character style was very similar to Elvis Presley, and I thought Shammi Kapoor matched very closely to him. So I drew inspiration from Shammi Kapoor,” the 24-year-old actor said.
Vedang has sung a heartfelt rendition of Phoolon Ka Taaron Ka, originally sung by the legendary Kishore Kumar, for Jigra. The film, directed by Vasan Bala, has not received a good response from the audience since its release on October 11.
